Empress Chinchilla Shows
Chinchilla shows are an integral part
of raising chinchillas whether you are a hobbyist breeder or a chinchilla
rancher. Held throughout the cooler months, usually from late
October to May, these shows allow breeders and ranchers to put their
best animals side-by-side and be judged to see who has the best animal
of the show. The animals are judged on qualities such as size,
conformation, color, fur strength and density and length. The animal,
or animals, exhibiting the best of these qualities win the show.
The breeders and ranchers are also rewarded for their efforts with Breeder
Awards. Through these shows, breeders and ranchers are able to gauge
their breeding program and decide where changes need to be made to improve
the quality of their animals.
There are different types of shows held - field days, claiming shows and
sanctioned shows. All of these shows lead up to the Empress National Show,
held each year in the spring, where the ranchers and breeders bring their
very best to be judged for the honor of winning Empress National Grand Show Champion.
